In honour of menshealthweek, it is only right that we discuss mental health in the construction industry.
Mental health often goes undetected with men in the construction industry because:
🚧 They have to remain strong 💪🏽 and macho
🚧 They are afraid of a stigma being attached
🚧 They don’t feel comfortable pouring out their feelings because they think no one understands or will listen
🚧 They suffer in silence
As a result men in the industry are turning to substance abuse and self-harm.
Do you have a mental health policy? Have you trained your managers and staff on mental health and stress?
If the answers are no, we can provide a mental health policy and offer CPD courses such as mental health awareness and stress awareness, along with mental health checklists/frameworks for your organisation.
Most employees don’t use EAPs so being able to spot signs is key and often crucial in safety-critical roles. Find out why mental health is so bad and how you can improve mental health in the construction industry below.
